Why Yoga with Lenore?
You’re not necessarily athletic but want to take care of yourself and keep moving. You’re not a big fan of “the gym” or “a club” and you’d like some guidance without feeling overwhelmed. You want yoga/fitness to be fun and not too serious. You’re open to new ideas, you’re curious, and want to take control of your health.
I teach people how to be more aware and to move mindfully. I start each class with a body scan - you check in with how your body feels and how it rests on the floor. You also check in with the state of your mind. It's important to start with this awareness of "what is" so you can gauge your progression. If your goal is to get more flexible, reduce pain, or relieve stress, then you need to be aware of where you're at first.
There's also a focus on the breath - how do you breathe and what part of the body do you breathe into? How you breathe is directly related to your energy level, your state of mind and how you move!
Sensing & feeling
During the class, I focus less on how a pose looks, and more about how it feels in your body. You can gain so much more when you move slowly, just like you can catch more detail when a video is done in slow motion. Notice what's working that should be, and what's working that shouldn't be. Learn to reduce compensations and become more efficient, which will translate into becoming stronger and feeling less tight and stiff. Feel like your body is your friend, not your enemy! Come experience yoga in the cozy environment of my home. The studio holds a maximum of 6 participants, so please confirm in advance. Small class sizes will provide you with the attention you need to get the most out of your practice (Currently offering classes by Zoom).
If you're new to yoga
If you are looking for beginner's yoga, then I would suggest trying the Mindfulness Yoga class. It meets you where you're at and has a slower pace, to ensure you get the basics.
If you have pain or limitations
Sometimes we want to do yoga or move more, but have pain and limitations and feel that we can't until they are resolved. If this is your scenario, then I suggest starting with the Somatics movement class. You will learn to find out what is causing your pain or limitations and how to resolve it. Or you could try the Somatics/Yoga Blend class.
What to bring
If you have a yoga mat, please bring. Otherwise, I have some mats you can borrow. Please dress in loose, comfortable clothing. You may want to bring water.
